My friend is wanting to buy her first Bible. She is Catholic, as I am. How does she?

go about to find the right Catholic Bible? Our city have a Christian bookstore but rarely has Catholic Bibles (they have an Imprimatur). I use the New American Bible but she wants more of a study Bible. What other Catholic Bibles are there?

Thanks! My friend is wanting to buy her first Bible. She is Catholic, as I am. How does she?
http://www.e-sword.net/

peruse their selection of FREE---Yes, FREE Bibles there.

The Jerusalem Bible is an excellent choice for Catholic Study also.
I suggest that you buy a King James Version and New international Version this will be a great combination for your reference. But when you read the Bible make sure that you apply it to your daily living for if not it will be just you are reading ordinary books. My friend is wanting to buy her first Bible. Go to www.Biblegateway.com and you will find 100 on-line translations for your consideration and quick comparison.

Being a Pentecostal I would suggest the King James 1611, but your church 'officials' might not be happy with that choice and classic English may not be to your taste. Still one if not the best translation.

To your request: The traditional Roman Church version of the Bible for English speakers has been the Douay or Douay-Rheims translation of the Latin Vulgate. I like it to for an understanding of some passages and it has been used to good effect by even Protestants for many years.

You can see it and compare on www.Biblegateway.com

or search Douay-Rehims on Yahoo and find a Catholic venue.
However, you would do better to use the Baltimore Catechism, then the Catechism of Trent, to begin your studies of the Bible, and learn how the bible is quoted in the teachings. Then you reference the bible. You need it secondarily for your reference, not first as a reading text.

There is only ONE Catholic Old and New Testament. It is the Douay-Rheims, translated from the Latin Vulgate. I have found many of them in second hand shops, even Goodwill. Often eBay has them. It speaks in the language of Our Lord's Day, direct and clear. It has no "modernism" in it.

The Latin Vulgate is the first and therefore most authentic translation from the scriptures, letters and epistles of the Early Fathers into Latin. In 1582 the Latin New Testament was translated into English. It remains the only Catholic version of the scripture. If it is dated or shows it is from the Vulgate, (not from Challoner, who removed the word Christ 18 times from the texts) then you can be sure it is truly the Catholic Bible.

There are dozens of Novus Ordo (New Order) versions which are modernized to the point of murky confusion and do not use the writings of the Apostolic Fathers consistently and authentically. Those books are not even as authentic as the King James of 1611, the earliest version. The Novus Ordo Conciliar Church of today is attempting to meld with the Protestant religions under the concept of "Religious Liberty" or "all are saved." This is the Pelagian Heresy, graceless and sacrament-less. It is the heresy most prevalent in the Novus Ordo Conciliar Church (since 1958) and in Protestantism.

To get an advance learning of the teachings of the True Church see Apologetics books which support the Holy Scriptures of the Douay-Rheims scriptures.

You will find the some of these books listed below on ABE Books, just type ABE into Google to get there. These are just a few of the hundred thousand dogmatic titles of the Catholic Church found in many private college libraries. My friend is wanting to buy her first Bible. She is Catholic, as I am. Go to either Barnes and Nobles, or another nationwide chain bookstore. I Know Barnes and Nobles carry various Catholic Bibles because I've purchased such Bibles at B %26amp; N throughout the years.

Go to Barnes and Nobles online site. Go to Amazon.com's site. Try Border's online site.

There's many versions of the Catholic Bible floating around "out there."

They're all good and complete. But unless she wants to sleep through her studies, suggest she not buy the Douay version of the Bible.

Good luck to you both.
They have a study bible if you can go to www.catholiccompany.com We go through them. there is also the NIV but for a study definatly get the Catholic study bible. Amazon also has it. Good luck
I am not a Catholic, but an Anglican. But heres some sites you may wanna look at:
When I made my conformation, my father bought me a student bible. It was pretty cool, it had explanations of certain things and places to make notes. It's called "The Catholic Youth Bible" and it was published by Saint Mary's Press. The website is www.smp.org
I own a NRSV bible, but this one on Amazon that I'm conspiring to buy looks pretty nice:

Liz seems not to know what the King James Version IS - it originally had the extra books in it but protestants took them out. The Jerusalem Bible has the official "nihil obstat" and "imprimatur".
Most cities have Catholic Stores

but got to any Christian store and buy a NASB Version with Appocrapha and your good to go.
I would also suggest the Catholic Study Bible that Pancake linked you too - that's the one I bought when I first started too. It has tons of notes and reading guides.
In order to make sure the version you chose is compatible with your doctrine, consult your priest. Often they'll be happy to provide one, if not they will recommend which one to get at a local book store.
How about studying why the Catholic bible is different, from a regular bible 1st :)
If it has the imprimatur(let it be printed) then it is a catholic bible
New Catholic Study Bible St. Jerome Edition
Catechism
There's all kinds of mythology books though..not just the bible.
You can purchase online through Borders.
you can go to anybook store and buy a bible, to any used book store and buy a used bible in any different translation or version. I am pretty sure the NIV is standard for catholics.

you can get Niv versions of the bible at Walmart too for only 9 or 10$

you can even get FREE bibles, books of mormon and korans online in many places.

i once had a Koran/Book of mormon CD database. i wish i had never lost it or given it up.
Why is the Catholic bible different? It says in the bible not to take from it or add to it.Sounds like a bad idea to me.I would buy a King James version if I were you.
Go with her and make sure she doesn't fall for any of the salesman's lines...

You know how sneaky they can be... you might drive out with a lemon

EDIT: Ahhhh, TD's? No sense of humor...
just go to Church and steal one from one of the pews
