Do you think it's wrong for a Christian to work in an adult store?

a friend of mine, who's also trusting Jesus to overcome unwanted same sex attraction. He manages an adult bookstore. I told him it's a bad idea, but he thinks I'm judging him.Do you think it's wrong for a Christian to work in an adult store?
Yes

1st Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
Even though your friend isn't the one responsible for the adult books, he is indirectly being a part of promoting things that are sinful, that not only corrupts his mind, but others as well, Your friend means well, but it's like calling oneself Christian, while working for Satan. I think you were right to tell him it's a bad idea, if He is already struggling in the area you mentioned, then it's only going to make it more difficult for him to overcome through Jesus.....I can tell you one thing, Jesus does not want Him working in a store that promotes sin. Being in that type of environment for so long, everywhere you look, sinful things are all around, how can he overcome this, this will corrupt the mind of anyone, even if they were not originally struggling in an area like that.

If he is Christian and wants Jesus to help him overcome same-sex attraction, then if he doesn't listen to you, maybe he will listen to the words Jesus himself spoke:

This was concerning looking at a woman with lust, but it can be applied to looking at anything with lust:

In Matthew 5:27-30

27"You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.'[e] 28But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell."

It's what you see that will cause you to sin, working in an adult store, where that's all you see, is alike walking into Satan's trap.

In Matthew 6:22-23:

"22"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. 23But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!"

If one's eyes constantly behold evil, especially willingly, the eyes are bad, and the Bible says, if they are bad, the full body will be full of darkness.Do you think it's wrong for a Christian to work in an adult store?
Lmao, first of all your friend is an idiot for looking for jesus to do anything for him, if he's gay then he is gay, simple. Its a damn shame that you would look down on him if he was, or anyone if he was. Look, he manages an adult bookstore, its a JOB, once again, please stop putting your religion on day to day events such as a job. You are judging him, stop it.
As Christians we are to "gently" talk with other brothers and sisters about things that may stand between them and God. Satan has a way of picking those things which tempt us the easiest. He knows just where to "get us". It is vital that your friend not put himself into situations that are tempting. This could definitely be a problem for him. He needs to really get into some quiet moments with God and besides, Phillipians 4:8 tells us "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable鈥攊f anything is excellent or praiseworthy鈥攖hink about such things."Do you think it's wrong for a Christian to work in an adult store?
Not if he hands out religious tracts with the porn purchases. You know, stuff about going to hell if they actually open the packages and stuff.

Unwanted same sex attraction? sheese -- just tell him he should refuse to talk to that guy and the right guy will eventually come along.

In other words -- MYOB.
Yes, it is against Christianity to work in an adult store. we do not view sex as a means of pleasure but rather as a gift from God and an act of love, so adult stores are not good. Furthermore, the fact that he is working there is putting him in a constant near occasion of sin, especially because he is currently trusting Jesus to overcome the unwanted same sex attraction... he needs to get himself outta there.

and good for u for being able to tell him that! it takes a lot of guts to tell a friend what u really think about things like this, especially when he thinks ur judging him for it. =)
We are to do all things for the Glory of God, So, can your friend manage an adult book store for the Glory of God? Thats the question I would ask him, its not judgmental that way. If he says yes, ask how.

Someone made a point about Jesus hanging out with sinners, if he can minister to his customers, then I guess it would be for the Glory of God.

I just pray he can avoid falling into temptation.
Jesus hung out with drunkards, thieves and whores. An adult bookstore is chump change in comparison.

BTW, do you have a CLUE why your friend feels bad about being gay? It's because he's YOUR friend. YOU and your fundie buddies make damned sure he feels bad about it!
a good friend would tell him he is wrong and i think your right because that's not pleasing to God and what is he going to say when jesus come's back and see's him working in there if he loves jesus he would give up that and allow God to supply him with someting better
'Judging' him? Is that his excuse? He needs to see the error of his ways.

What he's doing is the equivalent of standing on railroad tracks thinking that a train won't happen to come his way--as the tracks vibrate and a siren blows.

_______________

Revelation 18:4 (NIV)

4Then I heard another voice from heaven say:

"Come out of her, my people,

so that you will not share in her sins,

so that you will not receive any of her plagues;
Yes it is wrong, But tell him its not for you to judge, he should really seek Gods opinion in this for himself. Challenge him to Prove with scripture that selling porn is the will of God, This will motivate him to seek the will of God? You will not have to be the judge, The Holy Spirit will convince him. Pray against the spirit of lust and adultery, He will need to break with that through the blood of Jesus to live in Total victory one day. Those are the worse strongholds satan can have on ones life!
You are correct. A Christian should have nothing to do with anything that is of the world and likely to contaminate soul, mind and/or spirit.

The strong Christian is enabled to make all kinds of spiritual judgments. So, you should be- and have power to- judge him.
Well, he's kind of tempting fate if he wants to overcome this. But I would say just be his friend and support him. You can be emotional support for him without necessarily being supportive of his lifestyle or his business. It's between him and God.
Please tell your friend that just because someone points out WRONG behavior that you are NOT judging him. It is our duty as Christians to help other Christians stay on the right road.

Yes, it is wrong for him to work in that type of store.
You are judging him.

And it's not a bad thing, it's something that he just enjoys. However, too much of anything is a bad thing.

...same goes for you bible thumpers, too much is bad.
Jesus doesn't condemn gays so you should get your friend to accept himself

Jesus loves gays, lesbians and bisexuals too you can tell him
as long as what he is working around does not effect him.. but placing that much temptation around a guy is going to make it a little uh.. difficult
Jesus watches everyone have sex, he's the biggest perv of them all. Atleast the actors know they will be watched, and get paid.
Is it wrong for a Christian farmer to raise tobacco or to raise corn for whiskey or to raise grapes for wine?
as long as he is an adult and respects the law of the land, he should be fine.
I'm not sure how you can trust Jesus and sell porn. It's like being a Christian drug dealer (in a sense). Both drugs and porn are immoral.
Just so he knows, he will eventually be in an all man sandwich sometime soon.
they shouldn't if they're not married, it's a little iffy if they are... and they really shouldn't do it if they have children or other people who look up to them.
Christians are called to come out from the world and not be conformed to the pattern. He needs some serious advice
i think it's bat for a sexy bookstore manager to be christian
No. And you are.
Do not decide for him. Allow him to reason things out for himself. Be a good friend and be there for him to talk to.
no l dont think it is
yes
Hey what's his opinion of adult swim?

As for adult store I don't think Jesus'd give a holy crap.
