Should I buy a Catholic or a Christian bible?

I'm Catholic but i'm leaning towards buying a Christian bible. Their is Christian bookstore near my work and I really want to buy a bible that closely relates to the original bible. My friend told me there are many types of bibles with having more info then the other but I want one closely relating to the original.Should I buy a Catholic or a Christian bible?
The Catholic bible is the complete bible with all 73 books. The Protestant bible only has 66 because Martin Luther removed 7 of them.

The books Protestants will call the Apocrypha are actually called deuterocanonical books. The Catholic bible also include chapters in the books of Esther and Daniel not found in the Protestant Bibles. They will say Catholics added them but they have always been in the Bible.

They can be found in the Greek Septuagint bible used by Jesus and the Apostles and the Codex Sinaiticus bible, the oldest surviving bible. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/47鈥?/a>

They are also found in the dead sea scrolls. Kind of hard to say Catholics add them when the dead sea scrolls are from the 2nd century B.C.

The only record of Hanukkah is in the deuterocanonical books of 1 and 2 Maccabees.

1Machabees 4:56 And they kept the dedication of the altar eight days, and they offered holocausts with joy, and sacrifices of salvation, and of praise. 57 And they adorned the front of the temple with crowns of gold, and escutcheons, and they renewed the gates, and the chambers, and hanged doors upon them. 58 And there was exceeding great joy among the people, and the reproach of the Gentiles was turned away. 59 And Judas, and his brethren, and all the church of Israel decreed, that the day of the dedication of the altar should be kept in its season from year to year for eight days, from the five and twentieth day of the month of Casleu, with joy and gladness.

2Machabees 10:6

And they kept eight days with joy, after the manner of the feast of the tabernacles, remembering that not long before they had kept the feast of the tabernacles when they were in the mountains, and in dens like wild beast.

Peace be with you

If you want the truth get a new king James,or a New International or Revised Standard. These so called easy to read Bibles are not correctly translated in many areas %26amp; "The Living Bible" is not even a Bible but a very poor paraphrase of one.Should I buy a Catholic or a Christian bible?

Since Catholics ARE Christians, when you buy a Catholic Bible, you ARE buying a Christian Bible.

The Original Bible is a Catholic Bible.

Again, buy a CATHOLIC Bible.
the catholic version of the bible still has the original 6 books plus chapters of esther and daniel , that were rejected by martin luther .

also some of the masses have those books in their liturgy, so it important for you to keep to the original 72 books of the bible

new american is a good one , there are others as well. the christian bookshop will order one for you if they are out of stockShould I buy a Catholic or a Christian bible?
As a Roman Catholic of almost 60 years, I hate to admit that once-upon-a-time I was shocked at the reality that ANYONE could abridge God's Word as much as the Protestants have in their famed "KJV" ("King Jimmy's Book" in my words) and others of their pocket-novel versions of the real thing. Once I realized that people could be so brazen as to change what God Himself said, I discovered that only the Roman Catholics had the real Bible, and the Douay-Rheims Version, translated from the Latin Vulgate, was the most accurate translation around, and the Revised Standard Version: Catholic Edition was very good as well. Be sure not to confuse the Revised Standard Version (RSV) with the later New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) which took some liberties in how they translated God's Word. As I've heard said here on Answers: All Catholics are Christians, but not all Christians are Catholic. The same is true with the Bible and all it's translations. If you're Roman Catholic, the Douay-Rheims Version (DRV) and the Revised Standard Version (RSV): Catholic Edition are the best. God Bless you.
It sounds like your are looking for a more literal translation. I would recommend the Revised Standard Version (RSV), Catholic Edition. This is a good modern English translation that has all of the Cannon of Scripture. Stay away from the New Revised Standard Version, it takes some liberties to interpret Scripture.
I read the question and knew there would be a ton of replies. And yes, as they all state - Catholics are Christians. I understand what you meant though.

As for the bible, there are as many thoughts. Mostly its preference, what you know or are used to. I have several editions of the bible, in fact most US homes average seven bibles. My suggestion is don't buy one yet. Ask different friends if you can borrow theirs, then read the same couple chapters from different versions, say Genesis 1 and Mark 1. When you find one that is comfortable reading for you get that one.

Bibles I use are:

New American (St. Joseph Edition), same as used in Mass

Jerusalem, better flow

Good News Translation with deuterocanonicals, simple English
You should go with the Authorized version of the Church, the Latin Vulgate. Or the closest English Translation which is the Douay Rheim, next would be the Challoner/Haydock version which has many annotations from the Early Church Fathers and Saints.
Catholic Bibles are Christian Bibles

There were no Protestant Bibles until the 16th cent

Most protestant Bibles are incomplete

Get the Ignatius Bible which is complete and has a dignified and accurate RSV translation
Huh?? When you are buying a Catholic bible, you are buying a Christian bible.
Catholic Bibles ARE Christian Bibles!!!!
I use the St Joseph, the Douay Rheims and the New Jerusalem Bibles. They are all great.
Catholic BIBLES were made only for their own use, they are not authorized version that can be use by anyone. Buy the King James, this is one of the best and translated from the original. This is mostly use by all Churches in the world. This is authorized version.
converse one on one directly to Jesus (no mediator EVER necessary), seek His Wisdom and guidance, be still enough to listen :-) if you truly desire to follow Jesus, seek Him :-)
