I went to the nearest bookstore today and when I took a look at the religion section, there was a huge Christian section and all the others were grouped together in one teeny tiny little section with Sylvia Brown dominating. This is the first time I've looked in the religion section in several years. Is this what it is like in all the bookstores now?Is anyone dismayed at the selection of books in the religion section of their local bookstore?
I agree, it's as though there is only ONE Religion and that is Christianity. ALL other Religions can be found under Occult. Go figure. The same can be said of department stores Religious Jewelry sections, TONS of crosses but NO Stars of David or Pentacles or any other Religion just Crosses and Angels and Saints. What gives?
Brightest Blessings,
Raji the Green Witch
That's what they've always been like in this country. Only Jesus can inspire lifelong spiritual commitment in many people, not simply a smorgasboard sampling of whatever tickles your fancy. Is anyone dismayed at the selection of books in the religion section of their local bookstore?
I haven't looked lately, but it wouldn't surprise me.
I like amazon.com.. Is anyone dismayed at the selection of books in the religion section of their local bookstore?
Not at all, I found this great book see link below
No, I am not.
Ever heard of the law of supply and demand?
There must not be a large demand.
Funny I was thinking along the lines of the very same thing except I found the opposite.
~Peace :o)
A typical Christian bookstore might have a lot of pop theological literature, but seminary bookstores tend to be much better.
Nice to hear that someone goes to find a book.
Many now get their reading diet off the net.
Most bookstores have a decent sized section on Eastern Religion, but still only about a third the size of the Christian religious section.
Don't get me started on the gay book section of our local used bookstore. It's like no-man's land.
Nope, my local B%26amp;N has a very extensive religious section aside from the Christianity section. And thankfully very little Slyvia Brown because I believe that she's a huge fraud.
Go to deseretbook.com or seagullbook.com they have tons what do you want to know there is a book there with the answer
This is what the internet is for. More selection at cheaper prices. I don't go into book stores that much anymore.
Most of these stores don't want to pi$$ off the big mouths so of course they aren't gonna supply what might bring the wrath of the big mouths down on them. They don't like to have to have their customers cross pickett lines and such. Public libraries have to deal with the same kind of pressure when it comes to having reading material that the conservatives don't agree with. My suggestion is to shop on the net. It is the only way to get what you want or need. It is a sad fact that they censor our access to information that they don't agree with that way. Good luck in finding what you want and need.
Well, they are just putting things on the shelves that sell. Considering US is a 85% Christian nation and 10% secular you should expect about 95% of these books to be geared towards Christians. The 5% with other religions wouldn't necessitate an equal amount of books because they wouldn't sell. Its just pure math. If you were in a muslim nation it would be muslim books dominating because buddhists wouldn't be buying books there. Sorry if this offends you.
That's the way it is here. Sylvia Brown is shoved right up against the 'New Age' section.
Also-I love that there's 'New Age' with all the pagan religions and then 'Religious' or 'Spiritual'. **** you, bookstore.
It depends on the bookstore. Most of them have a terrible selection in every subject. I barely go into a bookstore except when I'm with my husband or a friend who wants to go there. Most everyone I know (including myself) buys all their books online. If I want a book on the history of elections (or whatever) I want the one with the best research, not the one with the prettiest cover.
The situation is that more books are written and read about the bible than the bible itself is read. Combine these with the modern day, "New Age" , "paraphrased" bibles and self help programs... then you have a real mess to wade through trying to find the real truth.
These New Age bibles, self help books and books about the bible are written with the authors beliefs, opinions or agenda discretely tucked within having the potential to distort or twist the pure truth.... misleading or guiding a soul from the straight and narrow to the broad road of destruction.
One must be cautious when shopping for a book concerning faith, because there is only one honest truth mixed in with the many false truths that sound godly, but are deceiving.
Yes, so usually if I'm really desperate I go to a specific Christian Bookstore to find what I need.
