What was their reaction?
I'm curious if the response is the same in different placesCatholics have you ever asked at a Christian bookstore/gift shop if they sell Rosaries?
Most Protestant owned gift shops sell rosaries, all Protestants do not suffer profound ignorance and prejudice on the matter of rosaries. I have noticed all the Protestant gift shops I have been in do not peddle hate literature, by that I mean Chick Publications, or Dave Hunt, or similar hate propaganda. More Protestants are discovering the rosary as a legitimate devotion that brings a person closer to Jesus.
Catholics are Christians!
As are Baptists, Lutherans, Protestants and several others - Christianity is the belief in Christ as the Savior and all that this belief entails.
Catholicism, Baptists etc are denominations of Christianity - Not separate religions!Catholics have you ever asked at a Christian bookstore/gift shop if they sell Rosaries?
Well, live in the South and I have had the woman behind the counter tell me "We don't sell non Christian items here". I left; wasn't that important for me to shop there.
Yep, several times. In the first instance, the woman was very pleasant and said that they didn't sell them, but she gave me the names of several places that might have them. The second time (different bookstore), you would have thought that I asked her if they sold "Penthouse" and prophylactics.
This was in an Illinois college town -- BIG well-known college, as a matter of fact. But since we've moved back here to southeast Missouri, I'm able to find Rosaries and Catholic supplies with ease.
Go figure.
Edit:
nardhelain, that university town wouldn't have been in central Illinois, by any chance, would it?Catholics have you ever asked at a Christian bookstore/gift shop if they sell Rosaries?
"This was in an Illinois college town -- BIG well-known college, as a matter of fact. But since we've moved back here to southeast Missouri, I'm able to find Rosaries and Catholic supplies with ease."
*perk!* I used to work in Christian retail in a really big Illinois university town. The store at which I worked was a pretty standard evangelical protestant outlet, but carried Catholic Bibles and such. We didn't carry Rosaries, but had the address, telephone number, and directions to a local Catholic store that did. We sent them Catholic customers looking for something more than a Bible - they sent us Protestants who'd clearly gone to the wrong place.
Despite the lack of Catholic merchandise at the store where I worked, I did take great pride and pleasure in telling more than one customer that, "We don't carry Chick tracts here because we do not deal in hate speech. The message conveyed by those products is not consistent with our Christian ethic, so you'll have to look elsewhere for them. No, I can not order them for you." With the full approval of my boss, I might add.
I generally don't ask anymore; rather than hunt for the one store that actually does sell Rosaries, I learned to make them myself. I make my own as well as Rosaries for any friends or family who want them.
Actually, many *do* sell them, along with other things you wouldn't expect, such as Catholic Bibles. I've even seen prayer cards in such stores.
Of course, some specific stores or even whole chains have an anti-Catholic agenda. For example, don't go into a Mardel expecting to find anything like this--you can't even get a crucifix there!
Most of them do so the reaction is let me show you our display.
LOL funny question though
Merry Christmas love,

Pray the Rosary and receive the Sacraments for the glory of the Incarnate Word
yes because generally speaking they do sell them. Although when they don't have a Catholic working at the store ordering the rosaries, they tend to just select the most horrid, gaudy looking rosaries to put on display and sell. I don't know how anyone could buy them. I like my rosaries to look modest and humble to a degree. They usually try to interest me in some protestant books and I just tell them over and over I am only interested in Catholic merchandise.
there would be no reason not to ask and see. some do, I've seen them.
I asked once and they said: "Why, do you want to buy one?" I was like "Duh..." Kind of funny.
NOTE TO Designer's wife: Catholics are the Only true faith. All Christian denominations came from it.
I have only asked at the Christian bookstore that happened to be owned by a Catholic family, and they simply showed me their display. There's an LDS bookstore in my area also, but I wouldn't expect them to have rosaries so I won't ask there.
When I was converting to Catholicism I walked into "The Bible Super Store" here in Fort Collins, Colorado. I walked around the 2 story store looking for a Catholic Bible and couldn't find anything Catholic. I went up to the counter and asked the woman where the Catholic versions of the Bible were. She acted as if I had asked her if I could have sex with her dog. She then abruptly told me there wasn't anything Catholic in the store and turned her back to me and wouldn't turn around to answer my further questions.
After being totally ignored I went to another "Christian" book store where I was told that they didn't sell Catholic items and that it was "The Devil" that was helping me to become Catholic. I finally had to go to a Catholic store in Denver to get the things I wanted.
