Why do Christian bookstores usually go out of business after only a year?

Does it seem like a good idea at the time? Does some church say, "hey, our town needs a good Christian bookstore...let's do it?" We have had about 4 open and close in my area within a year. Why do Christian bookstores usually go out of business after only a year?
There is a market for Jesus Junk but not enough to sustain a business.
Hell, even some Churches are closing its doors....after fleecing the parents and Grandparents of the new generations.

The newbies aren't as willing to buy a ticket to that same 'no-show.'

It's been over 2,000 years since the last claimed 'miracle,' beside those happening exclusively in the realm of Catholicism.

Amen. Why do Christian bookstores usually go out of business after only a year?
Willful illiteracy, on the part of the vast majority of believers, I would say.

And I will add that we buy LOTS of books. At least a couple per week. When there's a good sale, especially online, more than that. My den is all but insulated with books.
There were two Christian bookstores in my area. One was here a while and then closed a year or two ago. But there is another one that has always been there, probably for decades. Nice place. :)Why do Christian bookstores usually go out of business after only a year?
Books are getting too expensive, and not worth shelling out 30 bucks for a mediocre novel (hardcover) that might get read once. The mega-chain bookstore/ gift shop/ coffee shop near my neighborhood closed this year. The economy is terrible.
Because no one makes regular trips to the Christian book store. There are only so many Bibles one needs, only so many self-help books.
Because the world is getting more evil year by year

And becoming less interested in reading the Bible
They aren't alone. Amazon and other on line sites, as well electronic books, have really cut into the retail book business. Borders and Waldenbooks are going down the drain.
"Wide is the gate to destruction, and many will find it."

It's the end times, dear. Read the Bible. All the answers are in there.
Because bibles are usually free. And more and more people in my generation are growing up and rejecting the Christianity that was forced upon them from a young age so there are less Christians now.
that is really sad and a sign of our times
No one buys books anymore, and that makes me sad :(
Don't have enough income.
Because it soon turns out their books are stupid.
Wasn't God's will, apparently.

Yours in Christ,

Nick

When we're ready to become a Christian, we're ready to have our first real conversation with God, and these are its components:

We acknowledge that Jesus Christ is God; that He came to earth as a man in order to live the sinless life that we cannot live; that He died in our place, so that we would not have to pay the penalty we deserve.

We confess our past life of sin -- living for ourselves and not obeying God.

We admit we are ready to trust Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord.

We ask Jesus to come into our heart, take up residence there, and begin living through us.
