Do Christians think that all secular rock songs are heavy metal?

I was talking to this Christian woman in a bookstore ( who approached me for some reason)- and she asked me if I listened to rock music and she starts bringing up all this supposedly 'satanic' stuff about KISS, Megadeath, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Metallica ect. At the end of her little spiel I had to explain that I didn't listen to any of those groups and she walked away.

I'm just wondering-didn't she know that there were other kinds of rock besides heavy metal, or was she just quoting something that someone had told her?Do Christians think that all secular rock songs are heavy metal?
I don't even consider KISS or Motley Crue heavy metal. Some of us Christians grew up listening to Elvis, The Beatles, Led Zep, Aerosmith and even saw them in concert as often as possible. We are not all the same.

God Bless.
lol, you must've gotten her interest up for some reason, but no, I don't. I listen to some secular music, it's not all bad, God did give a little attribute called discernment...Do Christians think that all secular rock songs are heavy metal?
Well, not all secular music is metal. Just the BEST secular music...
Most of what the Christian web blankets say about these groups is just urban myth anyway, especially if they talk about satanic messages in Zeppelin or KISS.Do Christians think that all secular rock songs are heavy metal?
She was speaking about something she didn't really understand. Most likely, she doesn't listen to rock music. Now, those bands have songs about illicit sex acts, substance abuse, fast hard lifestyles, and even about the devil himself, among other topics not akin to the Christian perception. Because of that, they can be considered "satanic," because they condone behaviors that are against God. There is. however, plenty of good secular rock music, and even heavy metal, that is not "satanic."

I am a Christian, and I enjoy secular music as well as Christian rock and pop, hymns, gospel, and classical music, among other stuff. Sometimes all people, not just Christians, will start spouting off things that they believe because of what they have heard, what they read, and what they are taught, rather than what they understand through experience.

We need to be less closed minded in our perception of things, in order to truly educate people on what in the world is good, and what in the world is evil. Until someone actually does their research, they shouldn't start giving people information or advice. Sorry that this happened to you. Maybe next time something like this happens to you, you'll have done enough research yourself to come up with an educated response to their opinions. More power to you for actually seeking answers, and not just talking out of your butt...
Of course not, Im a Christian and I like secular music. My favorites are Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, Keane and Blue October. There are also Atheists who like Josh Groban and Barry Manilow so its never a good thing to make a blanket statement about any belief system.
I don't even listen to those bands, though I do have a couple of Def Leppard songs on my iPod. I'm Christian, though I don't practice it, and I don't think of all secular rock songs as heavy metal. That's just a stereotype.

This woman you spoke with wants to talk about KISS, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica and those other old-school bands being satanic? Has she ever heard of Marilyn Manson? KoRn? The frontman of that band, Jonathan Davis, SOUNDS like Satan when he sings.

I'm guessing she doesn't have any children of her own or keep up with pop culture news, or else she'd know about other genres such as pop, pop-punk, or jazz. Did you ask what kind of music she listened to? I'm guessing it's classical or old-school country (modern country music is becoming a bit secular.)

To the poster who mentioned illicit sex acts condoned by God in heavy metal, you should hear all the rap and hip-hop being dominated in the mainstream. All the stuff the glorifies pimping and wanting to tap certain body parts, and denounces women as "ho's" who sleep around and make babies without knowing who the daddy is. And I won't even get into the gang-banging and violence in there that is probably also condoned by God. So it's not just heavy metal anymore.

That woman's brain must be stuck in the 70's somewhere.
No, there is Jars of Clay, Audio Adrenilin and many more that ared Christian Rock. Ive listened to Christian metal and even Christian death metal and there is a big difference.
Would you call Journey "heavy metal"?
KISS? M枚tley Cr眉e? SATANIC? That's hilarious!
some of them think so!
Heck no!! In fact I detest Christian rock and roll. I much prefer Green Day, The Beatles, The Doors, The Who, The Ramones, The Clash, well, you get the picture. Of course the woman you talked to probably wouldn't consider me a Christian since I'm an Episcopalian.

Edit: Julia Sugarbaker!! LOL
She probably also thinks that the Harry Potter books are instruction manuals for Satanic rituals and religious witchcraft, full of spirit guides and ouija boards. And she probably thinks that because someone else told her, without thinking to actually see for herself.
