What do you think about this quote against Atheism?

"Atheism is a strong and growing influence in our culture. You can see it everywhere from the bestseller table at your local bookstore to the Darwin-mutated Jesus fish on the car in traffic in front of you. Atheists are comfortable declaring themselves atheists, comfortable promoting atheism, and comfortable decrying religion, which, according to some of the more prominent atheists, resides on the list of mankind's blessings somewhere between diphtheria and Nazism."

What does that mean - between diphtheria and Nazism? And how does this quote make you feel? Are you an Atheist or Christian?

This quote is from "How To Talk To An Atheist About Christianity" by Jason Anderson and Jennifer Fulwiler. I was assigned to read it in my religion class. What do you think about this quote against Atheism?
It sounds like it was written by someone who is so insecure when it comes to his own faith, that the idea of someone expressing a different point of view scares the hell out of him. He is afraid it might cause him to actually rethink his own beliefs. Notice that he doesn't say that the existence of atheists prevents him from worshiping the way he wants to. He doesn't like the fact that atheists, people who differ from him only in that they don't believe in a God, exist at all.
It makes several bare assertions (several of which are demonstrably false), and is a fallacious appeal to consequences.

So it's ridiculous and worthless.

Peace.

p.s. "between diphtheria and Nazism" means the person is claiming that atheists consider religion to be a "plague" on humanity. Some do, some don't -- but neither is part of "atheism," which is nothing but a lack of belief in claimed magical gods. What do you think about this quote against Atheism?
The meaning of 'Diphtheria and Nazism' are unimportant; you should remember this in your religious class:

Atheist do believe in God and here is why.

They constantly ask questions about something, which too them does not exist, now if God does not exist-

a) why ask questions about the non-existence of something, it is not there, therefore there is no need to questions it, is there?

b) because it shows even if only on the 'subconscious level,' that atheist believe in God through their constant questioning about Him.

The great Carl Jung would have a field day; from a psychological point, with some of the so-called atheist on R/S.

Moreover, recent research has show that even the atheist are the first too cry out the Lords name in some way when involved in a dire situation, such as a car crash, they utter phrase's like, oh God, Jesus, or oh Lord, all of which are cries for help from someone whom they claim does not exist what does that say about their psychological state and their subconscious beliefs?
Diptheria is a disease, and many people equate religion with a social disease.

Nazism obviously stems from Hitler, who believed in a god. The holocaust was performed to comply with what hitler believed was the will of the 'almighty creator'. Nazism was based on certain beliefs and ideologies, in the same way religion is.What do you think about this quote against Atheism?
Atheism is not strong nor growing. True aetheists represent 4% of the the US population. They do have a powerful lobby because our politicians accept the silly notion of separation of church and state to mean that no publicly funded institution is allowed to make a reference to God.

I welcome the thumbs down :)
Jason %26amp; Jennifer are making a sweeping generalisation about atheists and how we think religion is terrible (i.e. as bad as diptheriea, the disease, and fascism).

If you paid for this book I'd take it back, I'd also tell your teacher to find something more objective.
I have tried several tools of traffic generation, the best I used for my websites is the FMT software Try it out and let me know!!! I managed to have my webpage www.childrensplaysets.org on the second page of Google search results.

Good luck
I'm glad we are at last being noticed as a force for the truth rather than superstition.

However isn't it typical of a Christian to start using extreme words such as diphtheria and nazism to stir up fear and hatred.
I think this quote promotes intolerance. What is christian about intolerance?

I appreciate you thinking critically about what you are reading.
Blown-out-of-proportion, hate fuelled, ignorant, fear-mongering nonsense.

Atheist.
The quote is inflammatory, inaccurate and intolerant.

I am a Christian
I think it's a very good quote and I wish I'd thought of it my self!
I don't see how it is 'against atheism'. It's a strong statement, but it could be interpreted either way.
um...I'm confused? i don't know if i should be mad or not?
whoever made that quote should get a Nobel Prize. i agree 100%
I am amazed this was allowed said in USA

Did the author go to gaol or lose their job.

Wow

Excellent quote

It's our low opinion of religion.
