Should I go out and buy the Koran?

I've been studying a lot about Islam purley out of curiosity. but as much as I've researched, I realized that I still don't know much about the religion. so one day I thought-'hey! maybe I should go buy the Koran and read it!' don't you think it's a good way for me to learn more about Islam?

the only problem is, I'm Christian and everyone I know is Christian and/or knows that I'm Christian. what if they think that I want to convert to Islam because I decided to but the Koran and read it? I mean, I know I shouldn't care what others think but I do. plus, I sometimes feel like I believe what Islam says...

so...anyhow, would it be a good or a bad choice to go out to the bookstore and buy the Koran??|||I don't see anything wrong with it. I mean, you're just trying to learn about Islam and there's nothing wrong with that. I think that if you read the Quran, it will help you learn a lot about Islam. Just don't trust the internet. Because some people say bad things about Islam, and they don't even know anything about it, when they think they do. Please don't listen to some of the users above me. Some of them say that Muhammad (Peace be upon him) was a rapist and murderur, when actually, they're wrong, and Muhammad was a kind and generous man. He never raped anyone or murdered anyone. Just please don't trust some of the non-muslims who thing negative about Islam. They say these bad things, when actually, they don't even know ANYTHING about Islam. Islam doesn't mean terrorism, it means peace. You believe me right?

But anyways, yeah, I think it would be a great idea that you go and buy the quran and read it. Just make sure your buying it from muslims. Because nowadays, some non-muslims are trying to change the Quran, and some people just put negative things in it. But I promise you, that Islam doesn't teach terrorism and in Islam, it is a sin to break a promise.

You seem like a very nice person. If I knew you, I would TOTALLY help you, in whatever way I can. I would let you borrow my Quran, I would help you in your research, and I would help you in whatever way I can. You've been here in this section for a long time. I remember. You're hardly around though. Keep up the good work. I hope you learn about Islam the right way, and may God bless you.

=)

PS: If you ever need anything, don't hesitate to email me, ok?

EDIT: Actually, you might not have to go buy a Quran. Here is a really good website that has the translation of the quran:

http://www.quranexplorer.com/

Just click on "Launch Quran Explorer" and from there, you can choose what chapter you want to read. It should have the translation on the left side.

Now, you don't have to go out and buy the quran, and you don't have to worry about getting the correct copy. Don't worry, this is correct. I promise you. And again PLEASE if you need any help, don't hesitate to email me, ok? Hope this helped!

EDIT: Sorry, I sounded like I was worried, or something. It's just that I don't want you to get the wrong impression about Islam, you know what I mean? Especially nowadays, everyone thinks negative about it. But if you need anything, just email ME. Don't go on to any other websites, without telling me first. Because some jews, made websites that are suppose to give information about Islam, but on purpose, they spread wrong information about Islam. So if there's any websites, always check the source or ask me, no matter how convincing they sound. Hope this helped!

=)|||Go out and buy it

Being Christian doesn't mean you have to live your life in ignorance |||yea go for it. Just an advice....dont by a Quran thats spelled Koran or a Quran that is translated by a non-muslim or an unknown muslim translator |||you should buy it, i am muslim and i know what the koran its all about, very good information in there and you will learn very much|||Yes go buy one.

If you buy the modern translation you'll be better off, or you'll be reading 7th century thoughts and will need someone to make it sound acceptable for you, go for Rashid Kalif's translation- modern.|||If you want to read the Quran, you do so.

I have several Bibles in my home and I read them, it doesn't mean I want to be a Christian again and if people think I do, Oh well. I like reading and learning.

Also, you won't have to buy it. Visit a Masjid and they should give you one.|||I, too, have developed an interest in Islam and have decided to participate in Ramadan this year.

Upon my first visit to a mosque a few months ago, one of the brothers gave me a beginner's study Koran to keep for free. I am thinking that if you visit a mosque, and ask for any materials, they could provide you with a Koran.

However, I have still found that the BEST way to learn about Islam is to talk to a muslim and ask them questions. It is best to find a rather free-thinking and open-minded muslim who can answer your questions sincerely and not bias you in any means.

My many muslim friends have been and are guiding my spiritual and religious journey.

Good luck!|||i would think you converted to Muslim if you read to Koran.

How bout you read the Bible first then the Koran or both at the same time so you can see the different point of views on everything.|||I think it's really cool that you want to expand yourself. Buying a Quran is definitely the best way to understand what Islam teaches so you aren't blindly dragged around by misconceptions. If you decide to buy one, try and avoid any translations by Yusuf Ali. It would also be best if you get one that has commentary like at the bottom of the pages or something so that you understand the verses better.|||Sure go buy maybe you will learn some new things|||Go right ahead ! It might even make you understand you own religion as being better, look over the fence to better to appreciate that the grass in your own back your, is not too bad.|||of course it is your choice to read and learn and see the light .but what ever always ask a muslim to read it and make sure that you clear your misconcepts. if u have any doubts email me at darkprince.imad.darkangel@gmail.com and remember if you are only buying to abuse or critisise then better leave the idea and also read the biografy of our prophet muhammed(may the peace and blessings of god be upon him). before reading the quran and if u are thinkin of convertin then be sure u are above 18 and always ask a muslim(me) for details. REMEMBER IT IS YOUR CHOICE AND ALWAYS NO MATTER WHAT ASK YOUR PARENTS BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN GO ASTRAY EVEN IF THEY SAY.also buy a volume of books labeled as "SAHIH BUKHARI".THESE ARE THE SAYINGS OF OUR PROPHET.(may the peace and blesssings of god be upon him)for more email me and dont hesitate and do more research before anything and i really wanna help so email me for further details. |||Peace..

I never had the Quran, and when i started researchin it got very interesting, such as how woman are given more rights then any other religion etc.

What you should do is

1) Buy the Koran, from islamic shops, maybe internet..

2)Definately, reading the Koran will widen your knowledge about the religion and clarify any misconceptions, but remember, some parts of the Quran can be taken literally however others cannot. If you need help on something you dont understand, you can go into a mosque, as every1 is allowed even woman, and ask a question to a muslim priest(teacher).

3)Say to them IF they ask or think it that you are researching Islam and seeing what the media say about them is true or false, and whether to see how christianity is similar to Islam.

(But another thing is that why should you care what they think because you know who you are at the end of the day and if they think your going to convert then it just shows how much faith they have in you. The more knowledge you have the more you will understand.)

Do what you think is correct, there is no harm in reading it. Especially if its the fact of goin to Heaven or Hell in the hereafter.

I recommend you read it, and it is a very GOOD choice to go to the bookstore and buying the Koran..Widen Your Knowledge...

Goodluck...

Peace.|||Well, if your not sure about getting a real Quran

how bout get the translated one, then you will know what the whole Quran is about|||u can usaully get a free copy from certain websites, unfortunetly, i dont know which website it is, im sure some one else here knows it|||Put your mind at ease. Don't buy a koran. You can borrow one at the library. then when you are assured it is not for you take it back. You can extend your time over the phone or internet.

I have a koran, I also have several bibles, and the Talmud, and the Torah. Expanding your knowledge does not take away from your own religion, it re enforces it.

The Koran has a God, but he is called by another name, just as the Torah has a God called by names the Christians also use. But the Torah when it speaks of Jesus is not that he is the Lord. The Torah is the first five books of the Bible as you know it.|||Absolutely! Go buy one, as someone else said...you just want to learn and what better way to learn about another religion that to read the book that governs their entire faith. Their is no excuse for willed ignorance...and only those that are insecure about their own faith would not want you to learn about another faith. Have trust that God will guide you to the truth if He wills.

I got a degree in religious studies because I thought it was very important to learn about other religions...why? Because it helps you to not only understand the people of the world, but helps you to better understand what you believe! It's great!

I recommend the Yusuf Ali translation. It is the best translation bar none for learning. He studied language and knew Arabic and English fluently. He used the highest form of English for correct translation. His translation and commentary are also so complete. It's awesome. It is really great to study with the commentary because it goes into great detail to further explain details, history, context, meaning, etc. I love it!

|||Go ahead and buy it. It doesn't make you a bad Christian, it just makes you conscious of other people's religions. Kudos to you for having an open mind!|||

http://www.alislam.org/quran/|||its commen sense that if u wanna learn about a religion then go buy its book and just read it

not with the quran. u need to get two books one called the quran another called the Tafiser of the quran. where it explaning about every chaptter

and dont care about what others think otherwise u would never do the right thing

ironically it says the quran that if u follow the majorty of people u will be misguiged !|||you can read/listen to it online. even the english translation.

|||I suppose, the Qur'aan can be read online if you really have problem dealing with others.

http://www.qurancomplex.com/Quran/Targam鈥?/a>

http://www.quraan.com/index.aspx?tabinde鈥?/a>

http://www.thenoblequran.com/

Explanation: http://www.tafsir.com/

or if u are somewhere close, or somewhat close to me, I can send you a copy. and like others suggested, you can go to the closest mosque/masjid. Look for The Noble Qur'an by Dr. Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali and Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan, not the *Holy Quran, the *Glorious Quran and others, but the *NOBLE Qur'an.

To buy online, you can get a complete good hardcopy from

http://www.dar-us-salam.com/ (US)

http://www.darussalam.com/ (UK)

this might be a bit expensive.

Or just google free/buy "The Noble Qur'an"

And if you have farther questions please feel free to contact me. :)

All the best in your search!!|||I am also a Christian, but my husband is a Muslim so I got a Quran so I could read about his religion. You can get a free copy at this website if you live in North America. http://www.islamicity.com Just because you are a Christian there is no problem with learning about other religions. It can help you strengthen your faith in Jesus and God.|||No, that won't get you in heaven.|||No, other brands of toilet paper are cheaper.|||Try to find it in a small, used book store, and pay cash. Don't buy it at a large chain like Borders or Barns and Noble, and use a credit or debit card. You will be sure to be put on some kind of Homeland Security watch list. It might even be enough to make you have a problem at an airport.

Just because you are paranoid, it doesn't mean thay aren't out to get you.|||You mean to tell us there isn't a group like the Gideons dispensing the Koran to every hotel, motel %26amp; flop house through out the nation?

I'm astounded!!|||I think you can probably pick it up at any bookstore. Look in the fiction section.
