Last night, I was nominated to work with the youth on Wednesday nights at my church. Its a small church (average about 30-40 on sunday mornings). I just don't know how to go about doing it. One of the problems is the age range, which is small children and teens. If I try to focus on the younger ones, the teens will be bored, and if I focus on the teens, the younger ones won't understand what I'm talking about, I'm afraid. It will be me and my fiancee both working with them. I may try to separate us and let her take the children, and I'll give a lesson to the older ones. Anybody have advice as to how to fill up an hour of activities? I want to ask how their week has been and if an individual is having problems at school or whatever, have a short discussion about how to resolve it. Other than that, I just don't know. What kind of books or study guides should I look at? Would just any teen guide from the local Christian bookstore work, or should I look for something specifically?Any advice for starting a youth lesson on Wednesday nights?
Try to keep everything that you do grounded in the bible. Look at this website for materials by age and get a better idea on how to address these children each with a personal touch. work with small groups or individuals rather than as a total participation.

Food. I've found that food is often the one thing that brings them in, and brings them back, and keeps them. Our youth leaders are calling our youth program "3D: Devotion, Discussion, and Donuts." Pizza also works, where appropriate.
