Outrage Over US Military Bible Burnings In Afghanistan

WASHINGTON/KABUL (Worthy News)-- The president of a US-based group helping Christians persecuted for their faith has expressed outrage that United States military personnel have burned confiscated Bibles in Afghanistan.



"It really should shake the core of every Christian to realize that Bibles are being burned," said Carl Moeller President of Open Doors USA in an interview with Mission Network News monitored Friday, May 22, by Worthy News.



The Bibles, printed in the two most common Afghan languages, were burned amid concern they would be used to try to convert Afghans, the Cable News Network (CNN) quoted a a Defense Department spokesman as saying.



The unsolicited Bibles sent by a church in the United States were confiscated about a year ago at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan because military rules forbid troops of "any religion" from proselytizing while deployed there, Lt. Col. Mark Wright said.



Such religious outreach can endanger American troops and civilians in the devoutly Muslim nation, Wright added.



"FORCE PROTECTION"



"The decision was made that it was a 'force protection' measure to throw them away, because, if they did get out, it could be perceived by Afghans that the U.S. government or the U.S. military was trying to convert Muslims," Wright said.



The military said a soldier at Bagram received the Bibles and didn't realize he wasn't allowed to hand them out. The Al Jazeera network has shown footage of the Bibles at a prayer service where an unnamed soldier says members of his church raised money for them.



The chaplain later "corrected" the soldier and confiscated the Bibles, Wright said.



However military analyst and Pentagon adviser, Lt. Col. Robert Maginnis, criticized the move. "There is no need to burn the Bibles. They could have been shipped back," he said. "Just imagine if we, the same the United States military, were to take a bunch of Korans and burn them. I can imagine the ramifications across the world."What do you think about the burning of the Quran?
Burning the quran is a stupid thing to do. Honestly, people; God really can take care of Himself. And yes there is persecution of Christians everywhere in the world including the US and the US military. How is this news? Jesus told us it would be this way before He went to the cross, so why do we find it shocking? Yes it's wrong. Let Jesus handle it. He's a VERY big guy.

I don't agree to burning any religious text (or any book in general.. but that's beside the point), simply because it is sacred to some one and I respect that.
Everyone is appalled by just a statement but not when muslims do the following:



2005: News Story of the fact that Saudi Arabia desecrates hundreds of Bibles annually.



Nobody says a word about it.



2006: Muslim Students urinate, spit on and then burn the Bible publicly.



No voices are raised against this.



2007: Christians in Gaza fear for their Lives as Muslims burn Bibles and destroy Crosses.



None of the Liberals and their PC Brigades expresses any concern for this either.



2008: Muslims burn Bible in Pakistan



All the do-gooders cautiously skip around the subject.

Nobody stops Muslims in their countries from burning Bibles. As a matter of fact, most muslim countries don't allow people into the country if they have a bible with them. They burn our flags, blow up our buildings and kill our people. Now people want to support their :freedoms" in the USA? Get the hell out of here. Islam is a disgusting religion and it should be destroyed.
No one should burn anyone's books. That crazy man is not a Christian. Even though, I don't see the koran as a holy book-it should not be burned. Muslims don't fool around-they just send their terrorists to get us again. Americans want peace. They should respect our feelings and not build that mosque so close to 9/11, either. After all it was Muslims that bombed the twin towers.
I don't think it is proper to burn the Quran because we also have to respect the Muslim religion for we are all the son of God no matter what religion we are. People in this whole world have different religions we only differs in our own understanding of what religion is.

i think ALL religious text should be burned. however this is supposed to be a free country (although i think that the last time this country was free was before it was taken from the native Americans) but here is an idea if you want religious freedom, and the privilege of churches having tax exempt status , then religion should STAY OUT of politics. keep church and state separate.
