I was raised in Church and I learned about Moses, Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Jesus, Mary and Joseph, Peter, Doubting Thomas and yes the story of Saul being blinded and changing his name to Saul but he was not emphasized. My point is he is not a central figure in most Christians minds yet if it wasn't for him, Christianity wouldn't have ever gotten off the ground as a World Religion. Why don't they have action figures of him in the toy room of Christian bookstores? Paul is the one who spread the "good news" and picked up where Jesus left off. He was killed for his beliefs. He fits the classic definition of a hero. Why isn't his story played up more? Why isn't Paul a more celebrated figure in Christianity? Shouldn't he be a major MAJOR figure to Christians?
While I agree it is a little strange that Paul isn't more celebrated of a person, I would say that you should consider the number of his letters that became part of the canon, which is a pretty big honor to have your writing considered to be the authoritative word of God. I have been raised in the Presbyterian church, and I know that his letters are heavily stressed in the amount of use they get. I think that Paul would be happy to know however that his writings, his explanations of God and being in service to him, receive much more attention than he does as a figure.
I always thought he was a major figure. Why isn't Paul a more celebrated figure in Christianity? Shouldn't he be a major MAJOR figure to Christians?
Because Christians prefer Peter!
You might have grown up in church but didn't take much part in learning the Bible. Jesus had many disciples other than the 12 and Paul and Barnabas.....Even today there are many faithful believers to Jesus Christ, do you see any wanting to be an action figure? No. We are here to lift up Jesus not ourselves. And Paul knew that quite well. Why isn't Paul a more celebrated figure in Christianity? Shouldn't he be a major MAJOR figure to Christians?
I have seen many books on Paul in the bookstores. Paul admits he is the least of the Apostles because he persecuted the church.
The New Testament Christians,(those who try and live according to the teachings of Jesus and his Apostles), do rightly recognize Paul as a true Apostle, highly deserving of "hero" status.
By the very fact that his epistles to the Corinthians, Philippians, Galatians, Ephesians, Thessalonians, Timothy, Titus, Hebrews, and Colossians take up about 2/3 of the New Testament, is a testament to Paul.
All Apostles were martyred except for John--he was JUST imprisoned for many years. In my book they are all heroes and in Jesus' book too. Paul gets great kudos throughout the Church. Both the Catholic Church and the Protestant denominations
Because we worship God not Paul
Gee whiz I always thought he was one of THEE major players in the new testament. Matter of fact I once read a book called the Great Lion of God and it was about him. He wrote quite a few of the books in the new testament.
