Here's the story...
My parents are very religious and are Christians. I however, believe in God but not religion so I don't want to go to church. I told my dad that I wanted to go to a bookstore to study instead but said I couldn't skip worship. They're also leaders in groups the church has for church meetings every Friday or Sunday. They've been Christians for about 9~10 years and want me to be Christian. Help!
(p.s. I'm 15 years old, and South Korean in a average family)What do you know when you don't want to go to church?
Sadly, you really don't have much of a choice in things like this. You'll have to go. However, you can make it easier for yourself to try to get out of by making sure to make responsible decisions and keeping up your grades in school. (Believe me, it makes a difference).
If you're already doing these things, you could perhaps try to talk to your dad in private about how you're feeling. Depending on what you say and how he takes it, it might work out...might not.
However, if he doesn't let you get out of going...make the most of it, to the extent you can. You may have to grin and bear it for the next few years. Some parents tend to let up on the Church thing when you hit 16 or 17.
The best advice I can give is to present your argument in a respectable manner, and calmly state why you are opposed to the idea and that you are starting to make decisions for yourself about your faith and what you believe/how you decide to worship.
Just never, EVER let it turn into a fight with them or you WILL be miserable! Even if they yell or give you ultimatums or threaten (my boyfriend's parents told him he couldn't live at home if he didn't believe in God when he told them he was an atheist in high school), keep yourself calm!
Good luck! Many people are spiritual without going to a physical church because they either just prefer to learn and worship on their own or disagree with the way most churches are run.
Tell them by christian doctrine you are passed the age of accountability, therefore its your choice whether you want to believe or not. I feel bad for you that your parents are trying to push religion on you, its a sad state of affairs. Unfortunately, they are your legal guardians and if they tell you to get in the car. . . well you have to :P. All I can say is wait 3 more years, at which time you will be free to explore the world and ideas as you wish. What do you know when you don't want to go to church?
Sorry, you're stuck until you reach 18. Studying is great, but it's equally, if not more, important for you to worship God. You need to talk to Christians and hopefully become friends with them.
South Korean..
well, I'm sorry but there is no way you could get around your dad.
Koreans are very strict people, and they don't give their children liberation.
I think your dad already expressed that you don't have a choice. What do you know when you don't want to go to church?
Jesus in Jerusalem
where His parents had left him.
THEY THOUGH THAT JESUS WAS WITH THEM,
SO THEY WENT OFF WITHOUT HIM.
LIKE SO MANY SOULS TODAY
who just like sheep have lost their way,
they looked for Jesus everywhere,
in every street; he wasn't there.
why go looking all about?
He's always in his father's house;
in the temple jesus taught
things the wise men never thought.
and rabbis bowed and listened to
a child of only ten and two.
mary cried and tried to find
her son whom she had left behind.
for three sad days the virgin cried
for the son she couldn't find.
now at last she has no fears.
jesus wipes away her tears.
wiat another year, then you can move out. in reality there's nothing you can do, since their your parents, and they're the boss of you. That's why being a kid sucks.
Tell your dad that the people in R%26amp;S (LOL) told you that forcing religion on people is a terrible way to spread the word about God.
If you learn to stand up for yourself and you own beliefs now - it will be one of the most valuable things you EVER learn.
ask the people of the church why they believe and how God is real to them
